About this deal

For unknown reasons, a rivalry has existed between Stan and Gideon for years. Business rivals to begin with, their rather competitive personalities fuel their feud further. Gideon wishes to eliminate Stan for numerous reasons, namely to take control of his business and a strange secret it possesses and to remove the "obstacle" to winning Mabel's affection, and he plots day and night to figure out a means of revenge, though he is sometimes satisfied with simply irritating Stan. Stan doubts Gideon's abilities and constantly teases him. McMillan, Graeme (28 June 2018). "Horror Comic Gideon Falls to Be Developed for TV by Hivemind (Exclusive)". Hollywood Reporter.

Li'l Gideon's appearance is based on Benny Hinn, a famous Christian televangelist who claims to be a prophet. In 2018, it was announced that a TV series based on the comic was in development by Hivemind Productions. The next year, James Wan and his production company Atomic Monster joined as co-producers. Lemire and Sorrentino are also attached as executive producers. Unfortunately a difficult book to truly rate, because it is entirely plot and mystery based, and by the end of this volume, the plot and mystery have not been fully explored or resolved. Which is a frustrating trend in comics, to me, and a trend that a lot of other readers don't seem to mind. But personally, I'm tired of comics that lay out a big looming mystery, Lost-style, but decide not to tell any interesting characters stories along the way. This transforms these series into full puzzle boxes, missing the only thing about Lost that ultimately worked (for the most part): its characters. I don’t think I consciously set out to sidestep any traditions or tropes. These are just two characters that I fell in love with and felt compelled to write. I’ve always enjoyed writing from an outsider’s point of view and Norton is the ultimate outsider. And in Fred there is a chance to create a richly layered character who has a complicated relationship with his own faith. Psychologically, there is a lot to work with in both characters for both Andrea and I and their stories drive the narrative, rather than creating a high-concept horror story and having the characters simply be there to react to things. The art is fantastic! Sorrentino’s gritty style suits this book perfectly! It sorta reminds me of a mix of Azaceta and Sean Phillips which is something I say with the highest compliments. An amazing artist!

Some horror requires a certain amount of this. Like...Nightmare on Elm Street. Okay, that premise is pretty out there, so yes, if you were watching Nightmare on Elm Street, you'd probably be skeptical, too. But when we get to Nightmare on Elm Street 5, we need to skip the skepticism, if possible, or really shorten the fuse on it. Because that's the least interesting part of the story, to me. We, as viewers, know exactly what's going on. And we're just waiting for the main characters to take the leap, assume it's true, and see what happens. Gideon Falls is a masterfully crafted ‘southern gothic’ horror story, punctuated by richly textured and surreal art. The panels meld together in mind-melting fashion without losing the flow of the narrative – the work is utterly stunning. Furthermore, the story is consistently unsettling and has a pervasive sense of dark mystery that draws the reader deep into its twisted confines. Gideon Falls is an American horror comic book series created by writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino, published by Image Comics. The series ran for 27 issues from March 2018–December 2020.Announced in 2017, Gideon Falls was billed as Jeff Lemire’s unique take on the horror genre, focused on exploring the idea of a source of evil versus relying on gore. The series received early accolades, winning best new series at the 2019 Eisner awards, with Dave Stewart winning best coloring the following year. In addition, the series is set to be developed into a TV show (though the current status is ‘in development’). Overall, Gideon Falls is the perfect testament to the combined talents of Lemire & Sorrentino's ongoing partnership. Be kind to yourself and bump this to the top of your to-read pile. If you're in a movie, and if someone is pleading with you, swearing, and if that person is pretty normal most of the time, then I think it's worth your time to say, "Well, if you believe it this much, that's enough for me to give you a couple hours of my time." I move to a town where people say there's a Ghost Barn and a bunch of weird shit has happened and people see the Ghost Barn mysteriously appear and disappear. Reasonably, I'm skeptical, so a series of events must occur before I can get on board and get to the place where I'm like, "What are we going to do about this goddamn Ghost Bard?"

It is a huge relief when things that you have been working on privately for quite a while go out into the world and people respond to it. Though I must confess I always know that I am in good hands with Andrea. His work is so good and so interesting and so unique that I felt confident we had something special here.One-Steve Limit: Averted: there are two Norton Sinclairs. Played straight again when one of them is revealed to be really named Danny Sutton. The second thing that bothers me, I'm bored. When I know exactly what's happening and the characters don't, and when a significant portion of the plot regards the period between the characters noticing the fishy thing and then getting to the level of knowledge I am as a viewer, that's all boring time.

Gideon is Hebrew for “destroyer” or “feller of trees”, which is fitting considering his arch-nemeses are the Pines family and one of the villains of the show. The creative team behind Old Man Logan, Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino, reunite for their first Image series, Gideon Falls. And it’s not very good! Gideon makes his next appearance in " Irrational Treasure". He dresses up as a tomato farmer on Pioneer Day and teases Stan by throwing tomatoes at his eyes after Stan insulted Gideon by saying he looks less girly than usual. Sorrentino's art is essential here - shifting between an oppressively gritty style to explosions of mind-bending surrealism - the illustrations here really do set the tone and help indicate changes in pace in very clever ways.I feel like Lemire watched two of the crappiest, most overrated, yet absurdly popular, TV shows of recent years, Mr Robot and Stranger Things, and decided to do something derivative of them. The mental patient storyline seemed similar to the main character of Mr Robot’s while the small town sheriff/supernatural goings-on was very much in the Stranger Things vein. Even without those shows’ flavourings, neither storyline is interesting. I also didn’t care about any of the characters who weren’t at all likeable or compelling. Lemire’s abilty with chacter and dialogue, especially as related to the paranormal theme is on full display and the art was spot on. I would love to learn about the flow of work between the creative team as this all just fit together perfectly. Father Fred, aka Wilfred, is in a spot of trouble. There have been some murders and he is a person of interest. Warning: Due to the disconnected narrative structure, it gets very hard to talk about the series past the first volume without spoiling major plot points. Spoilers for the first four volumes (through issue 16) may be unmarked. Proceed with caution. A slam dunk demonstration of why Jeff Lemire is one of my favorite comic book writers; hell, one of my favorite writers period.
