About this deal

If you have not figured out by now, I loved this novel! It is one story I will never forget and many other ships stories will be measured against it. You never quite know what he has up his sleeve or his true intentions, and trust me, he'll leave you guessing until the very end - not to mention, he might be a tad more powerful than we all expected. Beautifully written, fantastic character development and of course it will leave you in tears. A highly recommended read.

It doesn’t happen often, but I have to confess that the ending of this story literally brought tears to my eyes! It is another dual timeline family drama from the author I believe to be the uncrowned Queen of this genre and I can’t recommend it highly enough.jude was no fun. though i enjoyed tcp, i didn't like her then and i don't like her now. to be frank, i think she's dumb, or at the very least, acts in dumb ways. i genuinely wish i had more to say about her but i don't. no more insults and no more compliments. she's just kind of... there. and she's the main character so that's a bit of a problem. It was such a good read and all I got left after reading this second book is the feeling of more. By this point, I think it is a bit hard not to love this whole plot. It’s truly fantastic.

Because, for a moment, when I was at my worst, I felt powerful, and most of the time, I felt powerless.” One thing that comes across in this novella is how ALONE Taryn is. She has no friends. Her parents ignore her. She's surrounded by creatures who look down on her just because of what she is. The only people she has, really, are her sisters, and they're not particularly helpful. Vivienne doesn't really see things from Taryn's point of view. Jude just screams at her that she's being an idiot. So of course Taryn is going to make dumb decisions--there's no one to tell her not to. And of course she's going to fall in love with the first boy who pays her any kind of positive attention, even if he's abusive. And of course she's going to do whatever Madoc says, if that will win her just five minutes of his undivided attention. Again, she’s a bit annoying sometimes, she is impulsive and tends to be rational until the verge of irrationality. But I am still fond of her. And I kind of understand everything she does because she’s just a mortal girl playing at high life. Even though she’s playing a dangerous and foreign game, she still doesn’t have to know all the moves. I am the type of person figuring things out while on my way of doing them so I am completely understanding Jude and all her discontinuity in life. Now I am not saying that this story made her one of my new favorite characters, but it made me at least see her side of things a little better. She kind of called all of us out and I’m here for that honestly. She calls Jude, and us, out on the fact that we only see bravery as one way. There are different ways to be brave and if you really think about it, Taryn was just trying to survive in this world just like Jude; she just had her own way of doing things. I’ve wanted this and feared it, and now that it’s happening, I don’t know how I will ever want anything else.

Published one year after the final installment of the trilogy, The Queen of Nothing, many in bookish circles on social media were dismissive of this slim collection of short stories from the perspective of the enigmatic character of Cardan. I'm excited to be taking part in the #BlogTour for Kathleen McGurl's heartbreaking tale THE LOST SISTER.

Content and trigger warnings for murder, death, bullying, abandonment, captivity, abuse, talk of past child abuse, and for violence in general. If you put me in a library and tell me said library is closing in 45 minutes and also that after that it will be closed for at least two weeks (but really for the foreseeable future), things happen. Harriet is doing her family ancestry and finds her Grandmothers' steamer trunk in the attic from her days of working on the Olympic as a stewardess. Among articles of clothing, she finds an old photo of three sisters. One is her Grandmother, one is her Grandmothers' sister but who is the third one? Her Grandmother only spoke of one sister. This gets Harriet on a deeper search into her ancestors. She is in for a lot of surprises!! In addition to the author’s brother, her influence in writing was a memoir of Violet Jessop. Interestingly enough, my husband and I, both avid cruisers, sailed with John Maxtone-Graham, the editor and annotator of Violet’s book, many times and heard first hand about Violet. I have a treasured signed copy of Violet’s memoirs gifted by our maritime friend. As a result, McGurl’s invitation to read her newest book was one I immediately accepted and feverishly read. This five-star historical fiction is to be published on May 12, 2021, and is a must-read for historical fiction lovers.
