Not that I have anything against cheerleaders, but a movie that centers around the trials and tribulations of cheerleaders is not going to have a serious and deep story.

To a majority of us who have never cheerleaded, it's easy to say that it's not anything to get worked up about, but I look at it like if you said that to a football player in a Texas high school, you'd probably be shot on sight. That's not to say that "Bring it On" is a realist film or anything, but I wanted some grounding in the performance.People get fanatical about that stuff and one of the things that attracted me to this script in the first place was it is a really interesting subculture.

Dunst has shown a lot of talent in previous efforts like Interview With the Vampire and The Virgin Suicides, and she neatly inhabits perky Torrance. The Toro cheerleading squad has spirit, spunk, sass and a killer routine that's sure to land them the national championship trophy for the sixth year in a row. She came into the audition and the attitude before she even got to the lines, and I thought that's Missy right there.

Kirsten was a cheerleader in 8th grade when it is just waving pompoms and memorizing these really short cheers- not the kind of really athletic kind of cheerleading in this movie. When the theft comes to light, Toro captain Torrance Shipman (Kirsten Dunst) must lead her team in the struggle to devise and learn some new moves in time for the big final.
