About this deal

I took it backpacking with my son once and let him use it while I slept on the hard ground, never again will I go with only one. It does not have any insulation, I haven't used it in below freezing temperatures yet, but I don't think it would be that big of a deal with the right temperature rated sleeping bag. To learn more about sleeping pads, including the difference between self-inflating pads and air pads, you can check out our comprehensive guide. In contrast, the Static V2 uses a 75D polyester material on the underside for durability and 30D polyester on top for weight savings.

Air pad technology has caught up, and I find this pad from Klymit to outperform comparable self-inflating pads.I could feel the cold coming through, so to use in really cold weather would require a reflector of some kind to block the cold transfer.

Throughout our testing period, this pad showed no signs of leakage, and the valve system worked flawlessly. For its weight and pack down size alone, I would say this is a great cost-to-value sleeping pad for backpacking and hiking, but it’s the comfort and V-shape technology that really makes the Klymit Static V2 an awesome sleeping pad. This gave us an initial feeling that our sleep might be hampered by how thin this pad is relative to others.

The exclusive V-Chambers and dynamic side rails also limit the movement of air, helping warmth stay closer to the top of the pad—meaning closer to you. One last thing; it takes nothing to blow this thing up whereas the Big Agnes takes about 400 breaths. You just won’t find this level of dedication on the other Kylmit sleeping pad reviews, let me tell you!

While I like my other pad, I do tend to wake-up multiple times in the night to adjust, as I am a side sleeper. It also compresses down to a relatively small package and should fit in your backpack without an issue. Our sleeping pads utilize body mapping technology to provide support where you need it while you sleep. With the Therm-A-Rest I would feel soreness in the shoulder, and back; so I say to the Static V, love it all night long. This didn’t matter much in Hawaii — an extra warm pad won’t make you hot, like an extra warm sleeping bag — but the first backpacking trip I used it on was in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. The V-shape cradles your body, so you don’t slip off your pad or twist your sleeping bag around in the middle of the night.

When it's time to head on to the next campsite, just press the push-valve for a quick deflation, and toss the pad in the included storage sack. I can only say, this doesn't have any such feature and I anticipate won't be as efficient as other pads.Destroying all notions of how luxurious a sleeping pad can truly be, the Static V Luxe has a V-chamber design to mirror the contours of your muscular structure, which eliminates painful pressure points and traps all of your precious body heat. With the Therm-A- Rest I always wished that the width would be 2 inches wider; at 23 inches the Static V is perfect. While preparing for my trip, I packed the usuals: my trusty backpacking tent, sleeping bag, favorite fleece, and snacks, but there was a new addition to my backpack – the V2 Klymit Sleeping Pad. What the Static V2 does is combine a reasonable level of comfort, weight savings, and durability into an affordable package that's a great option for seasoned backpackers and newbies alike.
