Description

The General Wine Company is a family-owned and operated wine merchant in Liphook, Hampshire, England. Discover the versatile 'Vinos de Jerez', the traditional wines of Andalusia - Spain: Manzanilla, Fino, Palo Cortado, Amontillado, Oloroso, Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez.

The _ga cookie, installed by Google Analytics, calculates visitor, session and campaign data and also keeps track of site usage for the site's analytics report. Now exposed to air, the pale Fino then oxidizes into a nutty, richer, amber coloured sherry as it is further aged in cask. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. However the real reason for featuring this sherry now, is the death of Queen Elizabeth II of course.A full bodied sherry with great balance this was previously known as Harveys Club Amontillado, but it has been repackaged and renamed. Further back in 2016 it already received the award for ‘Best Wine in the World’, the first Spanish wine to receive this prize. To create Amontillado, a mature Fino is allowed to lose its flor, either by not replenishing or by a secondary fortification. It contains over 30 blends of Fino, Oloroso, Amontillado and the special Pedro Ximenez grape and is a global icon of sherry. This is rather on the oxidative side of the spectrum, but we still find echoes of a coastal Fino profile underneath.

If there is any doubt in your mind about the accuracy of the data contained on this page, please ensure you check the product packaging before serving and contact us immediately. We have tried many amontillado's - some much more expensive than Harveys but we keep coming back -its got the right degree of dryness but is so smooth. Very salty, which is amplified by a high acidity, with more citrus peels, hazelnuts and roasted almonds. The wood elements are perfectly in balance with the flavours and bring a soft vanilla edge to the nutty flavours.

It is easy to draw parallels to Gonzalez Byass’ VORS range, which also contains lightly sweetened Oloroso and Palo Cortado but an Amontillado that is totally dry. While I’m not convinced she was an avid sherry drinker, Harveys is the only Spanish food brand to get a Royal Warrant from the late Queen. Whilst we endeavour the ensure the continued accuracy of all product, pricing and nutritional data at all times, we do not accept liability for any inaccuracies or incorrect information contained on this site.Amontillado is a rich amber colour, medium bodied and either dry or slightly sweet, depending on the style of the producer. Founded in as far back as 1796 (making them over 200 years old) Harveys of Bristol have since been one of the UK's largest providers of Sherry to the UK.

Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. Harveys is a brand of Bodegas Fundador and while they’re mostly known for Harveys Bristol Cream, they also offer an interesting VORS range. There's an oxidative side from the long ageing, but overall it is quite a powerhouse, showing a piercing salinity and acidity. The General Wine Company sources wines from all over the world, but with a particular focus on small, independent producers.
